Congratulations to Right Worshipful Brother David Quinn, the newly installed Worshipful Master of Templum Fidelis and his slate of officers for 2012! The ceremony took place this past Saturday, January 21st and all officers, both elected and appointed, were installed and invested in due form. The final duty of the outgoing Master, Worshipful Brother Tim Barber, was to present an in-lodge paper: An Examination of The Use Of Ritual which is available for viewing here in the TF archives.

The agape included an amazing meal prepared by our caterers from Aqua Terra and the history paper presented by our guest speaker, Right Worshipful Brother Ron Campbell, was a thoroughly researched, detailed account entitled The Ottawa Valley – Meeting The Needs Of Masons For The Last Two-And-A-Half Centuries. A very well crafted synopsis on the formation of Masonry in the region and it’s many lodges.

We thank Brother Campbell and all our visitors for helping to make the evening complete! We look forward to welcoming our guests to our spring equinox meeting on March 17th at which occasion we will be initiating a new brother to The Craft.

Receiving the Deputy Grand Master and District Deputy Grand Master together into Lodge on Sept 17th was, in and of itself, a special occasion. Add to this the fact that they are both Charter Members of Templum Fidelis and we had a very historic and proud moment for the Lodge.

A favourable ballot was conducted for a new Candidate to be initiated in December and new applications for membership were received. A very insightful Fellowcraft paper was presented in Lodge by Brother Jan Kahlen who clearly demonstrated that he has given his journey thus far in Masonry a great deal of consideration.

The absolutely stellar fare at the agape was only surpassed by the outstanding fellowship, great conversation on the paper and highlighted with a first rate presentation by our guest speaker, Worshipful Brother Pete Normand visiting us from College Station, Texas. His excellent paper entitled Ancients & Moderns – Two Pillars of Conflict in Masonic Observance is available for viewing in the TF Archives. We sincerely thank Brother Normand and all of our visiting brethren for contributing to a truly exceptional Masonic experience and we look forward to welcoming you all to Templum Fidelis again soon.

Congratulations to all those having completed their terms of service to Grand Lodge and those newly elected and appointed officers, in particular, to three charter members from Templum Fidelis Lodge.

Firstly, to Right Worshipful Brother Donald A. Campbell, the newly elected Deputy Grand Master of The Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Canada in The Province of Ontario. A most deserving office for a great man, friend and brother who has served this Grand Lodge with steady leadership and unwavering dedication for many years.

Also, to Right Worshipful Brother Roland A. Morrow, the new District Deputy Grand Master of Frontenac District. We know his year ahead will be a great one for the District. We pledge our support and loyalty to you both as leaders in the Craft and our best wishes for your respective terms in office. Congratulations also to Right Worshipful Brother Terrence V. Horner who was elected by his peers on the Board of General Purposes to serve on the Management Committee.

We also recognize our Right Worshipful Brother Bill Lewis who presented the Grand Master with the minutes and photo archives from Canada Lodge U.D. in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Our Brother Colonel Lewis has been the driving force behind establishing this Lodge and seeing the vision through to fruition. His efforts have allowed Brethren from Canada and many different nations to attend Lodge together while serving in Afghanistan and we are very proud of his exceptional commitment and remarkable accomplishment.

We look forward to the new Masonic year and our meeting in September to congratulate the four of you in person. In the meantime, we wish all of our brethren and their families a very safe and happy summer.

Twenty Eight Masons enjoyed a special afternoon and evening on June 18th as we initiated our new Brother Phil Deveau into the fold. The Lodge membership actually climbed by two as we also balloted on, and accepted, Right Worshipful Brother William Lewis into the ranks of Templum Fidelis. Congratulations to both our new members, the Lodge is a better place for your presence. Brother Mark Elkins delivered an engaging paper in Lodge in which he discussed aspects of Masonry based on the perception of those outside the lodge. The musical selections played by Brother Organist have been noted in the music section.

A delicious feast with lively discourse characterized the agape in the banquet room. Conversation topics ranged from the paper in Lodge to a host of subjects introduced by the brethren. Very Worshipful Brother Dale Graham offered a very thought provoking paper entitled “The Impact of Freemasonry” which we would strongly recommend as a worthwhile read from our archives section. This paper also inspired great discussion which could have gone on all night had the Worshipful Master not closed the agape at nine as many brethren had drives of two to three hours ahead of them.

The brethren of Templum Fidelis wish all a happy and safe summer and we look forward to seeing you at Grand Lodge!

The Templum Fidelis convocation marking the spring equinox was held on the evening of the largest full moon in two decades. The business portion of the evening consisted of two ballots on applications for membership and a new application was also received. As a result of the balloting, we are very pleased to welcome Right Worshipful Brother Marvin Switzer as a member of Templum Fidelis and the Lodge’s first affiliate.

The business being completed, the Masonic program for the evening began. Brother Organist played a piece by the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra entitled “Euclid” as a segue into a paper presented by Right Worshipful Brother Thomas Hogeboom on The 47th Problem of Euclid. A follow up musical selection from cellist Adam Hurst was played after the paper. This excellent presentation and information on the musical selections are now available in the online archives for viewing.

Before Lodge was closed, Worshipful Brother Kristopher Stevens led the Lodge through a meditative exercise using a Tibetan singing bowl and Masonic symbolism as the backdrop for an inward, contemplative journey.

The agape feast was exceptional. The meal, which centered around a main course of dayboat cod, was delectable and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Worshipful Brother Kristopher Stevens then gave a presentation on his own Masonic background and the development of the manuals he has played a role in developing for each degree. Thematically, his discussion with the Brethren was about viewing Freemasonry and ourselves in a larger, global perspective and a willingness to consider practices, Masonic and otherwise, from all over the world as not only valid in their own right, but as options to be considered for incorporation into our own practices.

We thank all our visitors for travelling from across the province to share this most Masonic of evenings with us and we look forward to welcoming you all again soon.
